Technical Integration Owner - Amazon India
Owner of integration and product development of in-house SaaS based WMS application with Amazon ERP. SPOC for external and internal stakeholders.
The Context
Situation
Delhivery is a 'Fulfilled by Amazon' third-party warehousing and logistics partner for the furniture category. Amazon owned inventory was stored in Delhivery warehouses across the country (15 nos.) and was managed using Delhivery's in-house WMS application. The WMS application was integrated deeply with Amazon's ERP systems to process orders, generate shipping labels, manage end-to-end logistics, trigger order and tracking updates to Amazon and manage inventory levels across both systems.
The Approach
Insight
Integration pipeline setup between the AS2 server and WMS integration layer (JAVA based) which would transform the file data to API payload (and vice versa), received from Amazon ERP (and send notifications to Amazon ERP).
Integration Type - EDI
Transaction Mode - XML files (Amazon's format)
Integration Mode - EC2 instance
Integration Application - Mendelson AS2 Server
Host - AWS
Goals
Being the sole technical owner of the account for Amazon, my goals included the following:
• Project manage all change requests/new enhancements pertaining to the integration and the WMS product
• Integration and product support for in-house operations teams
• Manage system failures by debugging issues, reporting and getting them fixed by the respective tech owners
• Collaborate with internal Product and tech teams to build any new features in the core product while making sure other client integrations are not impacted
Navigation
I worked closely with the client, internal product, tech, business and operations teams, managing their requests and expectations.
• Built a feature in WMS that allowed client to use the warehouses as centralised return centres thereby increasing revenue
• Enabled updating of inbound notes for inbound inventory
• Lead migration of integration and feature parity during WMS version upgrade
• Execute inventory synchronisation exercise in collaboration with client and warehouse operations every month
• Own and project manage all feature requests, UAT sign-off, production release and post-production support
The Results
Achievement
During my tenure owning the client account, I managed to drive the revenue up by 30% through the return centre enablement feature. The inventory discrepancies between the two systems reduced to the target of less than 3% set by the client. Penalties being applied by the client for missing order targets were reduced to zero; dedicated alarms and notifications were set for all possible points of failures to proactively resolve them.
Learnings
Managing this client account resulted in the steepest learning curve in my career. The most important thing I learnt was setting the correct expectations and being honest to all stakeholders.
